Middle Eastern Meatballs in a Tomato Sauce Infused with Warm Spices

Middle Easterners love meatballs. They eat them grilled on kebabs, baked in the oven and simmered in fragrant tomato sauce. You'll see a lot of meatball recipes on this blog. There are endless ways to prepare these succulent little treasures. This happens to be one of my healthy and incredibly satisfying favorites.

Whenever I make this recipe, I travel back in time to my grandmother's tiny, yellow, Brooklyn apartment kitchen. She lovingly prepared many delectable Lebanese meals there. Lots of rice pilafs, stuffed chickens, triangle-shaped vegetable pies and meatballs came out of her galley kitchen. The faint aroma of cinnamon and allspice wafting through the air.

Warm Mediterranean Quinoa Salad With Sweet Corn, Beans and Basil

This deliciously light but satisfying vegetarian meal relies on some of my favorite Mediterranean and Thai flavors. Cannellini beans are creamy and substantial. A medley of tender-crisp bell peppers and zucchini provides contrasting tastes and textures. Sun dried tomatoes and corn lend their subtle sweetness. A fiery green chili pepper wakes up the palate. Quinoa adds additional protein. A flurry of fresh Thai basil and lemon finishes everything off with unexpected sparkle. This is the kind of vegetarian eating that will leave you feeling nourished and satiated.

French Onion Tart

Recently, my husband and I had the pleasure of vacationing on the French side of Saint Martin. While there, we immersed ourselves in island life and French culture. We swam in the pool-blue sea, watching small silvery fish swim past us. We enjoyed leisurely lunches of crusty baguettes, creamy cheeses and bright salads. We had dinner at  local creole stands and fine French restaurants. We ate very well there, coming away from the experience feeling lighter, happier and totally changed. Vacations will do that. Vacations on French islands are an added bonus. I vowed to cook more French food when we got home. I wanted to continue their time- honored culinary traditions. I stuck to my promise. Our happiness continues, only by fireside instead of seaside.
